Texting a contact for the first time

Yesterday when texting a contact for the very first time it seemed to be a little difficult to select them. For example i want to text my dad for the first time from this new phone. So i hit the write new message key and entered his contact in. Then i typed out the message and hit send. The screen would reset and show his contact with no message. I had to retype my message and then it sent the second time. If you went back out to messages after the first time it would show nothing. I did just try to duplicate the problem again today but it seems like maybe you have it fixed already. Not sure...
